Jessica Simpson 'smitten' with 42-year-old Smashing Pumpkins singer Billy Corgan

Jessica Simpson has 'fallen hard and is smitten' with 42-year-old Smashing Pumpkins star Billy Corgan, it was claimed yesterday.

The 29-year-old star is thought to be dating the musician despite the age difference, and reports that her friends are not in favour of their relationship.

Sources said that what started off as a 'crush' has developed into something quite serious.

But the couple are so far planning to take it slow. A source told People.com: 'They are getting to know each other. He's a nice guy.'

He accompanied the Dukes Of Hazzard actress to a performance of Chicago at the weekend, where her sister Ashlee is performing as Roxie Hart.

'She has fallen hard and is smitten,' the source told E! News.

But they added: 'They think he's too old for her. No one takes any of her boyfriends seriously anymore because she has had so many.

The pair were first romantically linked last month when they met at a party in Los Angeles on November 6.
